Software localization refers to the process of converting and customizing software products according to use habits and language of end users. It includes text translation, multiple-byte character set support, user interface re-design and adjustment, localization function enhancement and adjustment, engineering test and desktop publishing (DTP). Software localization covers the following processes: localization of user interface and help system, re-design and adjustment of user interface, source code supporting double-byte, index localization, enhancement and adjustment and program functions, translation and adjustment of program language and user manual, graph and desktop publishing, term definition and project management and so on.
During the localization process, attention should be paid to related details such as: region setup, time and date display, weights and measures, digit and currency format, bi-directional text, use of icons, color, sequence, search and character sets.
