2nd Global Grand Challenges Summit Successfully Kicks Off

Jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) of the UK, the 2nd Global Grand Challenges Summit was held in Beijing, China, on September 15-16, 2015. The event was attended by distinguished figures including Zhou Ji, President of CAE; C. D. Mote, Jr., President of NAE; Dame Ann Dowling, President of RAE; Jack Ma, Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group; Charles O. Holliday, Chair of NAE and Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell; and Wang Yupu, Chairman of China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), who each delivered keynote addresses.

This summit represents the second iteration of a series convened in response to the 21st Century Grand Engineering Challenges proposed by NAE. It addresses a constellation of opportunities—selected by committees comprising contemporary luminaries in technological thought and practice—deemed both actionable and sustainable for advancing human and planetary well-being. The inaugural summit in London (2013) initiated global dialogue on pioneering solutions to humanity’s most pressing challenges. In Beijing, the world’s preeminent engineers and stakeholders continued this critical conversation.

Hollytech Linguistics provided high-caliber English simultaneous interpretation services for the summit proceedings and consecutive interpretation for the gala dinner. Additionally, we delivered written translation of all conference materials.
